Mosaic materials include glass tiles (vitreous and smalti), pebbles, natural stone, ceramics, shells, and other found materials. Some artists restrict themselves exclusively to one of these materials, but using the materials in combination offers a richness and variety of texture that is difficult to achieve otherwise.
